Violence at Howe Community Park Injures 4 Shot in the Arden-Arcade Area of Sacramento

Sacramento authorities are working a shooting incident that broke out Saturday night April 18 at Howe Community Park while authorities were dissolving an unsanctioned gathering of an estimated several hundred individuals.

What Led to the Shooting

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies initially responded to the park on Howe Avenue at about half past six in the evening after receiving reports of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. After that, another report was received about a possible fight occurring near the park.

Air support searched from above but could not confirm any ongoing fight. Regardless, it became clear that a massive group had congregated at Howe Park in an unauthorized manner.

The Shooting Itself

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies moved to clear the area by surrounding the park and issuing commands over loudspeakers telling attendees to clear out. Nearly 15 minutes were allowed for the gathering to break up.

It was during this dispersal that 20 to 25 gunshots were fired. The shots sent the crowd running in all directions. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies at once began locating gunshot victims.

Four Gunshot Victims

Ultimately, four people were confirmed as gunshot victims. All four — a group of one female and three male victims each reported to be in their twenties — were transported to local Sacramento hospitals. Medical personnel stated that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one had moderate injuries, and one had injuries classified as minor. Fortunately, all four victims survived and were stable.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department were called to the Sacramento park shooting 2026 scene and helped care for the injured prior to hospital transport.

The Investigation

Most of the gunfire appears to have unfolded on the Cottage Way corridor near the Home Depot located at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Crime scene investigators recovered further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings along Cottage Way. Projectile impacts were observed in the iron fence surrounding the Home Depot. The physical evidence pointed to that a second shooter had been sending rounds south from Cottage Way aimed at the Home Depot store. The Home Depot was locked down during the incident. CSI units alongside detectives worked tirelessly for hours.

Suspect Vehicle Located

Details gathered through scanner monitoring indicated that a suspect Kia had been detained in Solano County. Four individuals were in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Law enforcement units were dispatched to Solano County to return them to Sacramento for questioning. Video reviewed at the scene confirmed that two individuals had fired weapons.
